What is EUROLAB?
The European Online Lab project is a vision ...
The general objective of EUROLAB is to elaborate fundamentals of an integrated
lab network, based on one side on a generic open architecture for remotely
controlled and simulated laboratories and on the other side open toolsets
to foster a broader use of this technology in many subjects.
Innovation factors of EUROLAB are in particular:
- proposing a new integrated approach by addressing the architectural issues that may enable the successful inclusion of online labs into any e-learning environment.
- elaborating a new intelligent, adaptable, platform independent and “on the fly” changeable user interface, which ensures a maximum of usability.
- looking towards the definition of rules that will enable self-management and automatic expansion features, which will only become possible by working on standardization proposals
- ensuring the reusability of facilities in this way, that any instructor, wishing to set up his/her own experiment/lab using any network facilities, has access to an online lab toolkit enabling a straightforward way of designing online labs.
- developing templates to support cooperative work, which is the common setting in real labs, including a set of configurable communication modules to support live discussions and the definition of an new assessment model that replicates typical real lab assessment procedures; both as equivalent pedagogical complements to the online lab toolkit.
- establishing an innovative educational concept for a collaborative online lab work.
Target groups of such a proposal are especially universities, institutions
of further education and the secondary school level, but in the near future
also SME’s and enterprises.
Nowhere in the world a complex solution of the problem like proposed in this
project exists.
As result of the project EUROLAB Europe could be a leader in this online
lab technology.
